We’re about to donate this year’s set of children’s books, winners of the Jane Addams Book Awards, to the Humboldt County Library, and another set to the teacher’s resource room at the Humboldt County office of Education.

Check them out at your local library!

We’re one of a number of sponsors for the city of Arcata Lantern Ceremony in commemoration of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  It will be at Klopp Lake in the Arcata Marsh on Saturday August 12th at 7:30.  Parking at the Lake is reserved for people with disabilities, others are encouraged to bike or walk or take the shuttle from Samoa and I streets.  Other events that week include “The Oracles of Pennsylvania Avenue”, a documentary about a longstanding vigil for Peace at the White House, showing at the Sanctuary, 13th & J in Arcata, at 7 pm Saturday August 5th.  Humboldt Unitarian Fellowship in Bayside is hosting a singalong with Peace and Justice songs on Friday the 11th at 7 pm, and Humboldt Exchange in Arcata will be hosting origami crane making during arts alive that same evening.  There will be opportunities to make lanterns for the ceremony before the film and before the HUUF singalong, and on Saturday the 12th at the Arcata Farmer’s market.

We’re also selling tickets for a lovely quilt donated by the Open Heart Quilters.  The quilt will be on display around Arcata this spring, and we’ll also be selling tickets at the Arcata co-op and the Farmer’s market.  Or you can send a check to $5/ticket, payable to WILPF, to  P.O. Box 867, Arcata, CA 95518 and we’ll put tickets in for you.
